The Seat of the Shoura Assembly

Cairo is the seat of the Shoura Assembly. In exceptional circumstances, sessions may be held
In any other city at the request of the President of the Republic or of the majority of members.
In accordance to the Constitution, any decisions taken by the Assembly during a session held at
A place other than the designated seat of the Assembly are declared null and void.

The Shoura Assembly and the Press

  The Speaker of the Shoura Assembly is the President of the Supreme Press Council ex office.
To the membership of the Supreme Press Council, the Shoura Assembly selects the following:

  * Four former presidents of the Journalists' Syndicate.
  * Four former presidents of the Syndicate of the Press Workers.
  * Two university professors of the press.
  * Two figures of the legal profession.
  * A number of public personalities representing different information attitudes (not to exceed

  Both the National Press Organization and the National Newspapers are owned by the State and
It is the Shoura Assembly that exercises the right of ownership over them.
  It is within the competence of the Shoura Assembly to elect Chairmen of the Board of
Directors of the National Press Institutions as well as their Editors-in-Chief.
